For anyone who is sick of the 2020-2021 vibe, fear not, for we bear the good news that 2022 will be a great year for all Toyota enthusiasts. The upcoming year is a big year for Toyota, including new models, new engineering, and excellent new fashion. You won’t be able to have all the new models and trims, but if you’re in the market for a new Toyota, you’ll have an exciting (though difficult) choice to make. So, with that, here are the 2022 details we’re most excited about here at your Reading Toyota dealership.

Corolla Cross

The Corolla cross is the crossover of which you’ve never dared to dream. This brand-new model comes in both FWD and AWD over three trims – the L, the LE, and the XLE. Built atop the TNGA-C (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, this crossover is sturdy and built to be a durable drive while offering a higher line of sight than the traditional Corolla. Its 2.0-L Dynamic Force Engine offers 169 horsepower, meaning that the Corolla Cross can hold its own on the open road. The LED lights and black body accents give the Corolla Cross a strong appearance, and wheel options from 17-inch steel on the L to 18-inch alloy on the XLE will make sure that the strong body has the strong support that it needs.

The cargo capacity for the Corolla Cross is competitively excellent with its 60/40 folding rear seats and available power liftgate with height adjustability, in addition to accessories including a roof rack with crossbars, an activity mount, and all-weather floor mats. With a towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds, the Corolla Cross is able to carry tremendous loads for a small crossover.

Because of Toyota’s Dynamic Torque Control system, the Cross holds stellar fuel economy, estimated at 32 combined MPG for the FWD model and 30 combined MPG for the AWD model. Think about the money you could save on gas.

More importantly than the stellar entertainment technology features (which, throughout the three models, includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Audio Plus with Remote Connect, a nine-speaker JBL sound system, Wireless Charging, and rear-seat USB ports), the Corolla Cross offers top-notch safety technology. All models of the Corolla Cross come with both Toyota Safety Sense and STAR Safety System. Additionally, the LE and XLE models offer Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic, with the XLE also offering Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking. One last safety feature which is worth noting is the fact that the Corolla Cross is equipped with a total of nine airbags throughout the cabin. So, no matter what may happen, Toyota is working overtime to keep you and your passengers safe with the Corolla Cross.

Prius Nightshade Edition

We all know the Prius; it was one of the pioneers of hybrid vehicles, but there’s a new Prius in town, unlike any Prius you’ve seen before. As if there wasn’t already an abundance of Prius trims, with the L Eco, LE, LE AWD-e, XLE, XLE AWD-e, and Limited grades, Toyota evidently feels that it is high time to take things to the next level. With that, we would like to introduce you to the Nightshade Edition Prius. Yes, Toyota has been shaking the automotive world with its increasing collection of Nightshade vehicles, but the Prius Nightshade Edition is a truly exciting development as it is the first hybrid to enter the Nightshade family.

The Nightshade Prius is by far the classiest Prius on the market, offering color schemes of Midnight Black Metallic, Super White, and Silver Metallic. All three color schemes are designed with intriguing accents, including black headlight accents, mirror caps, door handles, and a shark fin antenna. 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels on the FWD trim and 15-inch alloy wheels on the WD-e trim give the Prius a confident stance. The Nightshade Prius still looks like a Prius, maintaining the classic hybrid’s structural design – it just looks like a cooler, edgier Prius.

This vehicle is redefining automotive efficiency with its automatic grille shutter, which decreases aerodynamic drag by shutting when airflow to the radiator is unneeded. Though appearing to be a compact car, due to its liftback design, Prius FWD models offer a whole 50.7 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded. The Nightshade Prius is a leader in automotive technology, with its customizable 4.2-inch Dual Multi-Information Display including Energy Monitor and Hybrid System Indicator with Eco Score, Eco Savings Record, Drive Monitor, Eco Wallet, and Eco Diary, as well as plays for climate control, driver support, and more.

Toyota bZ4X BEV

Toyota has just blown up the world of electric automation with its debut of the Toyota bZ4X (“Toyota bZ) Concept. Ultimately, Toyota bZ will be a global series of battery-electric vehicles, stemming from Toyota’s dedication to bringing about carbon neutrality by 2050 (bZ does stand for “Below Zero,” after all). But, wait, it gets better: the Toyota bZ4X is an SUV concept.

Yes, this brand new AWD vehicle is built upon the new e-TNGA BEV-dedicated platform. The bZ BEV is designed with a long wheelbase and short overhangs, giving it a new, intriguing appearance. The interior design is open-concept, maximizing the comfort of the driving experience. As part of Toyota’s initiative for carbon neutrality by 2050, they intend to be offering 70 electric vehicles by 2025. More information will soon be coming from Toyota regarding the bZ4X concept, but it looks like sales will begin in 2022, so get ready!

Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport Model

The Toyota 4Runner has been a staple of Toyota vehicles for years now, but it is now taking off-roading to a new level with the addition of the 2022 TRD Sport model. Toyota has outdone themselves, going beyond the TRD’s already-renowned four-link rear axle and coil-spring suspension, as the addition of the TRD Sport model brings with it astonishing chassis technology in the Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS).

The X-REAS system has a center control absorber that cross-links the shock absorbers on opposite corners of the vehicle (this shape forms an “X,” hence the “X” in “X-REAS”) which offsets opposing inputs. Thus, the X-REAS system adjusts the force of shock absorbers on bumpy terrain. The 4Runner TRD Sport offers both RWD (which offers 9 inches of ground clearance) and part-time 4WD (which offers 9.6 inches of ground clearance) with a 2-speed transfer case. The truck offers impressive machine-faced 20-inch wheels with dark gray color accents, and just like all 4Runners, it comes with a full-sized spare tire.

Aside from the excellent new engineering, the 4Runner TRD Sport is shaking up 4Runner fashion. On the exterior, you will see color-keyed grille accents, rocker panels, and body molding. If the TRD Sport’s leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel wasn’t enough to convince you of this stylish interior, it has abandoned the TRD old cloth seats for black SofTex-trimmed seats with gray contrast stitching (the front headrests even have TRD logos stitched in gray).

The TRD is truly an impressive vehicle with its 270-horsepower DOHC 4.0L V6 engine (with 278 lb-ft of torque), its five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission, which features sequential shift mode for manual-shift when desired, a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs, and Automatic Limited Slip Differential (Auto LSD) which allows a small amount of wheel slippage in order to help the car dig itself out of a surface. Any off-road enthusiast will want to get into a 4Runner TRD Sport as soon as possible.
