Even with buyers switching over to SUVs in droves, the Toyota Camry still manages to sell in large numbers as a remaining hold-out in the midsize sedan segment. It continues to sell because it holds its value over time, it is reliable, and it has excellent safety ratings. Being fuel-efficient also helps its cause, but the 2022 Toyota Camry is comfortable, spacious, and handles confidently. In general, the Camry ticks a lot of boxes for what people want in a vehicle. Having a modern, sporty look on the outside is just icing on the cake.

The 2022 Camry seats five passengers and accommodates adults in both rows with generous legroom in the front and back. Expect comfortable ride quality in the cabin and responsive steering that makes easy work of driving. Overall, the Camry could almost be considered luxurious in its quality of materials, yet it maintains an affordable price that translates into its worth when it lasts mile after long mile. Buyers have seven trims available for their choice of the features they prefer, from the entry-level LE to the more luxurious XLE. You can even go for the performance-oriented TRD. Now in its eighth generation since 2018, the Toyota Camry is holding strong for the sedan segment as it maintains a loyal following.

Aside from its numerous quality features, the 2022 Camry comes with an excellent warranty. Buyers will have bumper-to-bumper coverage for three years or 36,000 miles, powertrain coverage for five years or 60,000 miles, and corrosion coverage for five years with unlimited miles. In addition, coverage for roadside assistance is provided for two years without limit to the miles you travel, and two years of limited maintenance is included up to 25,000 miles. With so much to offer, the 2022 Toyota Camry almost speaks for itself.

Driving a 2022 Camry provides a satisfying experience behind the wheel, with the ability to adjust the seats and steering wheel for virtually any driver’s needs and the responsive type of drivetrain and suspension that provides a stable and confident feel on the road. Most 2022 models will come standard with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 202 to 206 horsepower and 182 to 186 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission pairs to the engine for smooth shift quality at any speed, and the Camry comes standard with front-wheel drive. With this engine and its 32 mpg combined fuel economy, buyers will save money at the pump. Adding the available all-wheel drive offers excellent capability to handle adverse weather, though it does drop fuel efficiency down to 29 mpg combined.

    Serious Power

An available 3.6-liter V6 engine makes 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque with a more satisfying performance when hitting the gas from a stop and is far more spry with passing on the highway. To gain access to this engine option, choose the XLE V6, XSE V6, or TRD model, though all-wheel drive is only available with the four-cylinder. While all three of these trims have the same power, the TRD takes performance a step further with upgrades that include additional chassis bracing, track-tuned springs, and Active Cornering Assist.

    Premium Exterior Features

All 2022 Camry models come standard with LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights, features which are rarely found on cars at this price point. The LE will come standard with 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, solar-absorbing glass to keep the cabin cool on hot days, an acoustic windshield to cut down on wind noise, and features three driving modes. Moving up to the sport-inspired SE trim upgrades wheel size to 18 inches and offers a sport-tuned suspension. Other upper trims add or subtract exterior features and styling for luxury, performance, or style, leading up to the range-topping XSE with a black gloss grille and 19-inch wheels as the most feature-laden 2022 Camry available.

  • Interior

In the 2022 Camry, regardless of trim level, passengers will experience a ride that isolates the cabin from road chatter, and supportive seats make long trips a pleasure. Small things like dual-zone automatic climate control and a powered driver’s seat with lumbar control make a big difference in daily life, and the 2022 Camry comes standard with these and many more features. Generous legroom in the front measures 42.1 inches and should accommodate even tall adults. Rear seat legroom is nearly as spacious at 38 inches, which is large for a sedan of any size. Trunk space is what you expect for a midsize sedan at 15.1 cubic feet, yet the large trunk opening makes it easy to load luggage, groceries, or bags into the space.

    Optional Features

Buyers who want to add a few extra comforts will have a number of options available for every trim level, such as a heated steering wheel, multi-stage heated front seats, or wireless charging. While remote keyless entry is standard, Toyota offers the option to upgrade to a Smart Key even for entry-level trims to gain push-button start and proximity open features. The infotainment system that comes standard with every 2022 Camry starts with a seven-inch touchscreen that gives access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and will connect with your home Amazon Alexa if you already have that service. Toyota also provides its own connected services as standard, giving buyers a one-year trial that includes three months of WiFi service.

    Camry Connectivity

Upgrading to the Audio Plus system will mean gaining a larger nine-inch touchscreen, but it also includes a ten-year trial of Toyota’s Service Connect, which keeps you informed about your vehicle maintenance needs, and a one-year trial of Remote Connect service that gives access to certain vehicle features via your smartphone. Though the standard six-speaker audio system is of fine quality for streaming music or listening to your favorite radio stations, Toyota does offer an upgrade to its audio system for upper trims. In the most inclusive of its infotainment packages, Premium Audio, buyers have access to a nine-speaker JBL audio system that adds a subwoofer and amplifier for superior sound quality audiophiles will love.

  • Safety

When it comes to safety, Toyota is one of the best brands that has earned trust over decades of continuous improvements to the engineering and design of its vehicles. The 2022 Camry incorporates a plethora of driver-assist safety features across its entire lineup, with most of its features being offered right from entry-level. With Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ standard, active features like the pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and lane departure alert with steering assist keep you and your passengers safer on the road, whether you drive on highways or city streets. Handy features like road sign assist and automatic high beams lend themselves to both convenience and safer driving, while dynamic radar cruise control makes highway cruising a breeze without ever having to touch the controls once they’re set.

    Designed For Safety

Other features, both active and automatic, are included in the Star Safety System. Traction and stability control automatically manage wheel slippage and throttle control when needed in adverse driving conditions, and electronic brake-force distribution automatically adds braking power when you need to stop quickly. With the standard Safety Connect service, emergency assistance is contacted when an accident is detected by the system, and the service can also help you locate your vehicle if you can’t remember where it is. This is also where roadside assistance can be requested when needed, and every Camry comes with this service for a full year.

Behind the technology, Toyota ensures the integrity of the vehicle is strong enough to withstand an impact if it occurs, and every Camry is built with specific features to prevent injury to passengers. Front seats are designed to reduce whiplash from vehicle impacts, and crumple zones in the front and rear of the Camry absorb energy during an impact to prevent injury to occupants. Even the steering wheel absorbs energy in its collapsible design to protect the driver from harm. Though all these safety features are standard, Toyota does offer the option to add more features such as a blind-spot monitor available for all trims. Upper trims can add the Bird’s Eye View camera, which will scan the nearby area surrounding the 2022 Camry to ensure a clear path, and it also offers a 360-degree view that includes the curb.
