  • Overview

A white 2022 Toyota Venza XLE is shown facing left.

The Toyota lineup recently expanded with the Venza, a five-passenger SUV with more luxury than the RAV4 and incredible fuel savings at the pump, thanks to a standard hybrid powertrain across the lineup. As the first manufacturer to mass-produce hybrid cars, Toyota’s hybrid systems are built to perform with the same kind of reliability found in the rest of the Toyota lineup while providing efficiency beyond traditional gas-powered SUVs. Lavish Lexus-like styling and performance are part of the experience with a 2022 Toyota Venza, which features technology and conveniences buyers might expect in a higher-priced SUV.

Three trims are available for the 2022 Venza, starting with the feature-laden LE, the mid-range XLE, and the top-tier Limited. Standard dual-zone climate control manages comfort for the passengers in every trim, but the innovative Toyota S Flow climate control means air is directed only to occupied seats to save on energy. Ample room for passengers in every seat means even taller riders will have space to relax, with 40.9 inches in front and 37.8 inches in the rear seats. Cargo space similarly accommodates both daily driving and long-distance travel, with 28.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, which expands to 55.1 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded flat.

Driving the 2022 Venza will mean instant power when engaging the accelerator for an enlivening experience behind the wheel. Whether driving in the city or on long, empty highways, the Venza puts control into the hands of the driver, allowing you to capture energy to improve fuel economy or enjoy a more engaging performance on the road. Small touches like ambient lighting at night and the fixed glass of the available panoramic glass roof add just the right mood to the cabin, while technology and convenience features provide comforts any time of day or night.

    Sophisticated Hybrid Performance

From the driver’s seat of the 2022 Venza, the hybrid powertrain delivers acceleration with satisfying ease, and the on-demand all-wheel drive means stability and control for any type of road conditions. Toyota builds the 2022 Venza with three electric motors paired to the 2.5-liter I4 engine, which makes a total of 219 horsepower for impressive capability. With the all-wheel drive system always performing, the Venza benefits from up to 80 percent of the available torque being sent to the rear wheels for improved traction when hitting the accelerator, and the electric motors lend instant accessibility to the engine’s power. The all-wheel drive reverts to powering the front wheels to save energy on dry roads, but the system reacts to any wheel slippage by sending torque to the rear wheels for immediate traction.

Drive modes for the 2022 Venza allow the driver to control the responsiveness of the powertrain with four options: Eco, EV, Normal, and Sport. In Eco mode, the Venza sips fuel and battery power for better driving range. Normal mode allows the Venza to electronically select performance to get the best mix of performance and efficiency, and Sport mode sends more energy to the throttle for spirited driving. The last drive mode for the 2022 Venza is an EV mode that allows for short trips using only electric power, perfect for sprints to the grocery store to reserve fuel for longer rides.

With integrated regenerative braking, the 2022 Venza can recharge the lithium-ion battery on the go, especially when you’re driving in the city or stuck in traffic. No special driving experience is required for this feature, as it’s built into the system and works automatically to restore battery power without any need for you to learn how it functions. However, drivers who want to restore more battery power can utilize the sequential shifter to increase the amount of power recaptured by the regenerative brakes when desired. Expect the ride quality in the cabin to be calm and relaxed, with the suspension and foundation of the Venza providing a smooth ride that inspires confidence while cornering or handling rough road conditions.

    A High-Tech Atmosphere

Impressive systems inside the 2022 Venza create a high-tech atmosphere with classy styling that will be both modern and intuitive to use. Standard features found in the command center of the Venza include a configurable driver’s display that shows safety features, infotainment, and hybrid information all in one place according to the driver’s priority. In the XLE and Limited models, a seven-inch display widens the screen for more visibility. All 2022 Venza models start with an eight-inch touchscreen in the center stack, which operates the standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa connectivity, but an available 12.3-inch touchscreen adds navigation and a nine-speaker JBL audio system for high-quality sound.

Every 2022 Venza comes with a wireless charger located at the base of the center stack, and the wide pad easily accommodates even large phones. Four standard USB ports keep passenger devices charged as well, and the standard Toyota Connected Services includes WiFi for every trim. Safety Connect, Remote Connect, and Service Connect are also included for every 2022 Venza to give buyers access to all of Toyota’s available connected services. For buyers choosing the Limited trim, an Advanced Technology package is available to upgrade the Venza with a ten-inch head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, and a Star Gaze fixed panoramic roof with electrochromic technology that changes the glass from opaque to transparent at the press of a button.

    Toyota Safety Sense 2.0

The Limited trim includes as standard a digital rearview mirror and the Birds Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan for increased visibility when parking or pulling out of a parking space safely. Of course, all 2022 Venza models are equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes features like the updated Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian detection, Road Sign Assist to display road sign information on the instrument panel, and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control for less fatiguing rides on the highway. A Blind-Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is added to the XLE trim, which can also option the Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automated Braking to further ease parking in tight spaces.

    Upscale Design

Toyota knows how to create the right balance of comfort and convenience in vehicles, with soft-touch materials attractively blended into the environment of the cabin. From the outside, the upscale design quality draws onlookers to look again at the sleek, modern appeal of the Venza’s tidy packaging. LED lighting is standard for all models, from the slim headlights and bright daytime running lights to the bar of lights across the back end for the brakes. LED fog lights are available, and standard puddle lamps will illuminate the area next to the vehicle at night. In cold weather, the heated exterior mirrors take care of ice and snow, and the foot-activated liftgate provides easy access to the cargo area for every model.

With the standard Smart Key system, the front doors and the rear liftgate can be unlocked while keeping your key fob in a purse or pocket. This system is upgraded in the XLE and Limited trims to work for all four doors. The XLE and Limited trims also gain the addition of low-profile silver roof rails for tying down extra cargo on the roof, and the cargo area of the interior is large and expandable to accommodate luggage, equipment, and bags in a variety of sizes. A tonneau cover provides privacy to keep your valuables out of sight, and when not in use, it can be stored beneath the load floor.

    A Modern Interior

Standard features inside the 2022 Venza are numerous, starting with the standard eight-position power driver’s seat and power-adjustable steering column. For the XLE trim, the driver’s seat gains memory functions, and the front seats are heated for comfort on chilly days. Limited trim buyers gain the added convenience of ventilated seats as well as a heated steering wheel. An auto-dimming rearview mirror makes night driving more comfortable in the upper two trims of the Venza, and it includes a built-in Homelink universal remote for opening the garage door or security gate when you arrive home.
