The Unique 40th Anniversary Special Edition

Toyota’s 4Runner has been around for forty years now, and that’s a number worth celebrating. To that effect, Toyota has created a 40th Anniversary Special Edition, with a host of exterior and interior touches that let everyone know that this vehicle was made to last and is loved by off-road enthusiasts everywhere. Hopefully, the 4Runner will stick around another forty years so we can celebrate its 80th Anniversary with another special edition, though who knows where the automotive industry will take us forty years from now. It’s fun to imagine what the future 80th Anniversary special edition of the 4Runner will look like and what the special edition will entail, but for now, we’ve got an amazing unique offering from Toyota that is sure to excite every fan on earth.

For 2023, the 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition comes in three color choices: sleek and classic Midnight Black Metallic, bold and beautiful Barcelona Red metallic, or pristine and bright Ice Cap. Any one of these will make you and your 4Runner stand out above and beyond the typical dull, dark colors most jeeps are offered in. Even more of a standout, the tri-colored graphics against the paint color of your choice will guarantee that everyone knows this is a special vehicle. Both sides of the 4Runner, as well as the grille, sport these graphics. Perhaps the best feature of the 4Runner exterior is the bronze wheels, sure to inspire awe and admiration from your friends and neighbors, especially if you’ve come home from a long weekend of off-road adventuring.

The interior of the 40th Anniversary Special Edition has leatherette seats with bronze stitching, a nod to the bronze wheels, as well as a leatherette-covered steering wheel that also includes bronze stitching. There are also badges acknowledging the accomplishment of 40 years inside the vehicle, though they are restricted to the floor mats, badges, and front headrests. Inside and out, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner celebrates its long run in the automotive industry and proudly proclaims itself a classic.

Of course, this special edition is limited, as Toyota is only producing 4,040 of the 40th Anniversary vehicles, so if you’re the sort of person who enjoys owning and showing off gorgeous special editions, you’ll need to find one soon before they’re all gone.

    Storage & Optional Seating Arrangements

There are many different kinds of off-roaders––those who enjoy going it alone or perhaps bringing their dog along, the couple who like to be outdoors on the weekend, and the family that wants to find a new camping spot or explore a new park or forest. Depending on what you need, the 4Runner can be configured to your specifications. There are two options for seating, the standard two-row or the optional third row, which will provide three more seats, making up a total of eight seats, perfect for the big family or large gathering of friends. If you want more cargo space, you can get the three-row and take the row out, ensuring that you have plenty of space for all the stuff you want to bring along. If, however, you need more seats than storage, the third row becomes a necessity.

Most individuals enjoy having plenty of space to stow away things like snacks, electronics, small bags, or whatever they bring along to entertain themselves. The 4Runner is exceptional at providing plenty of storage space, offering up several large cubbies in the front of the vehicle for the driver and front seat passenger to store their things in so that nothing will fall or break but still be easily accessible if needed.

The cargo space in the back, of course, can be utilized with or without the third row, and if desired, can be fitted with the optional sliding rear cargo deck, which can hold up to 440 lbs. This makes it much easier to load and unload since you can slide the deck back and forth without having to move what’s on the deck. This also means that you get a flat space to load things onto instead of having to wrangle boxes and bags around. Though you may not utilize it often, it is something worth considering, as you may never know when something like this will come in handy. There’s an added bonus to including the sliding rear cargo deck––you can pull it out and use it for tailgating parties. It’s like having an extra table where you can pile the food, plates, and drinks, and no one has to worry about where everything’s going to go.

  • Safety

    Helpful Assistance & Safety Features

Along with providing plenty of storage space and passenger seating, Toyota has also made a lot of driver assistance and safety tech standard, no matter which trim level you end up buying. This means that you’ll have help right at your fingertips so that you never have to worry about backing into a tree, rock, or another vehicle, and you can rest assured that even if you don’t catch something, your vehicle will. A backup camera ensures that you’ll leave no marks on the natural world around you, and even if you can’t quite make out how far you are, the available sonar technology will beep, either slower or faster, depending on how close you are to other objects or vehicles.

The standard safety features include the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. The Blind Spot Monitor and Automatic High Beams will help you see any obstacles around you, while the other systems will help prevent you from colliding with anything or driving off the road. Knowing you and your car are working together to keep everyone inside and outside the 4Runner is a relief, especially since you cannot predict what other drivers, animals, or pedestrians will do.

Unpredictable situations happen all the time on the road, but with Toyota’s driver assistance and safety features, there will be less of a chance of you having to halt your explorations due to an unplanned accident. Another standard issue of Toyota is the Star Safety System, which includes vehicle stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, anti-lock brake system, and smart stop technology to ensure that you, your passengers, and the outdoors are all kept as safe as possible.
