When you think of luxury three-row SUVs, you probably go right to the premium brands like BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Cadillac. However, one of the most luxurious three-row SUVs is also one of the most affordable. For about the same price as the entry-level trim on any of these premium brands, you can get a top-trim Toyota Highlander with more luxury features and touches than you will find in those other models.

At Performance Toyota, we are your Toyota Highlander dealer, giving you more options and choices than any other dealership for these three-row SUV models. We are located in Sinking Spring, just a short drive from Reading, where we proudly serve drivers in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey who know that Toyota is one of the most reliable brands for quality and luxurious vehicles at an affordable price, like the 2022 Highlander.

If you want to be looking for luxury in all the right places, then you should consider the Toyota Highlander XSE, Limited, or Platinum trim levels. These models will give you an incredible assortment of standard premium features that help them stand out from the crowd while giving you and your passengers a great ride along the way.

The Three Highest Trims of the Highlander

Toyota has six different trim levels for the 2022 Highlander. However, if you are looking for the most luxurious features, then your best bets are the Highlander XSE, Limited, and Platinum models. These may cost you more than $10,000 over the $35,855 MSRP on the base L trim of the 2022 Highlander, but if you are looking for the most out of your three-row SUV, then this is worth the extra money.[a]

When you are looking at these three trim levels, you will notice that each has something special to recommend it. The 2022 Highlander XSE rides on a set of 20-inch machined-face alloy wheels and has a sport-tuned independent MacPherson strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar. This is the model for someone who wants luxury and performance. It has a set of LED projector headlights with black accents and LED-strip daytime running lights offsetting its sporty front black mesh grille. There are also a set of LED fog lights set below the headlights that will come in handy on misty mornings. The speedy nature of the Highlander XSE is assisted by a rear lower bumper in a gray metallic finish with a chrome lower spoiler. It also has a power liftgate that will make accessing the trunk easier than ever.

The Highlander Limited moves away from performance and more towards glamour with specialized exterior finishes. It also has a set of LED projector headlights but adds high-output LED fog lights that will work like magic in low visibility. Its 20-inch chrome wheels and black-pained front grille with chrome-plated surround give it a little more bling, while the acoustic noise-reducing front side windows will keep you and your passengers free from distraction. The rear power liftgate is height-adjustable and has a hands-free feature that will come in handy when you are carrying lots of packages.

The ultimate exterior styling on the Highlander is the Platinum model. The LED projector headlights on the Highlander Platinum feature an adaptive front-lighting system with auto-leveling to keep them focused on the road ahead. These frame a black-painted front grille with chrome-plated surround. The front lower bumper sports a gorgeous silver finish, with a pair of powerful high-output LED fog lights riding above. The windshield has a set of rain-sensing wipers that will set themselves to intermittent usage depending on the strength of the inclement weather. The Highlander Platinum rides on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels and sports a panoramic glass roof with a sunshade to let the outdoors in for all three rows of your SUV.

A Spacious Interior That Reaches the Heights of Luxury

The Highlander comes with 139.5 cubic feet of passenger volume. Toyota has chosen to upholster the seats inside the XSE, Limited, and Platinum models of the 2022 Highlander with a choice of the finest materials. The Highlander XSE features SofTex-trimmed front and second-row seats that have a cool two-tone look. These not only look great, but they are super comfortable. Leather seats are available on the XSE with a red and black design featuring red accent stitching. The front-row seats are heated.

The Highlander Limited and Platinum feature leather-trimmed front and second-row seats. The front-row seats on the Limited and Platinum are heated and ventilated, with the Highlander Platinum also offering heating in the second row. This will come in handy on those cool Pennsylvania autumn mornings. All three models feature a ten-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support and an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. This will make sure that you and whoever is lucky enough to ride shotgun will be able to adjust your seats for maximum comfort.

The XSE, Limited, and Platinum Highlander models seat up to seven passengers in a two-two-three configuration. You can also get the Highlander Limited with a second-row 60/40 bench seat that will accommodate up to eight passengers in a two-three-three configuration.

Toyota has truly gone the extra mile with these three models, making sure to use every inch of space to provide little features to make the ride more enjoyable. For example, these three models of the Highlander feature a soft-touch in-dash split-level shelf that will come in handy for placing your smart devices for easy access on a road trip. There are over 14 cup and bottle holders spread throughout the cabin so that all of the passengers will have a place to safely stow their beverages. The Limited and Platinum models even have a cargo area tonneau cover for added privacy. The standard ambient interior lighting will help the cabin glow, illuminating the ornamental dash trim and other touches throughout the cabin.

Cutting-Edge Technology to Reach New Heights

Toyota has used technology to help set the 2022 Highlander apart from other luxury three-row SUV models. It starts with the Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system that comes standard on all Highlander models. The 2022 Highlander XSE has an Audio Plus system on an eight-inch color touchscreen with six speakers, wireless Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility, and four USB charging ports.

The Highlander Limited takes things to the next level with the Premium Audio system on an eight-inch touchscreen, which adds eleven JBL speakers, including a subwoofer and amplifier. The Premium Audio system also features Toyota’s Dynamic Navigation system with a three-year trial subscription. This gives you turn-by-turn navigation, so you can get wherever you are going safely and easily. The Premium Audio system is available as an option on the Highlander XSE.

The Highlander Platinum takes things even higher by featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen on its Premium Audio system, which is available as an option on the Highlander Limited. All three models also come with a complimentary three-month Platinum Plan trial subscription to SiriusXM. When combined with the JBL speakers on the Premium Audio system, your Highlander will turn into a mobile concert hall while you stream your favorite music.

If you and your passengers need to keep your devices charged while out on the road in the Highlander, you can do so easily with the Qi Wireless Charging device located in the center console. This comes standard on the XSE, Limited, and Platinum models. Simply place your Qi-compatible smartphone into the center console and get charged up before you reach your destination.

The Highlander XSE, Limited, and Platinum feature a seven-inch color LCD Multi-information Display, providing you with all the information you will need on your trip. This includes such things as an odometer, trip, and average fuel economy gauge, cruise control guide, and an AWD torque distribution monitor on all-wheel drive models. The Highlander Platinum adds a ten-inch color Head-Up Display that includes a speedometer with Road Sign Assist to help you better avoid getting speeding tickets.

Get a Lease

So you’re thinking leasing is an option worth looking into? Are you ready to trade in your old vehicle and want to get into a new one without the heavy price tag of buying? Leasing is an excellent option for a number of lifestyles. If you just don’t want to permanently own a vehicle right now, leasing gets you into a new car with the latest tech and comfort, all without the long-term commitment of car ownership. If you’re thinking you might be moving in a few years or want to keep things flexible in case something new and exciting comes out, leasing is often a great option.

When you’re leasing a vehicle, it’s important to keep your daily driving habits in mind. If you drive short distances or don’t drive very often, leasing will likely fit into your life. Usually, when you sign a leasing agreement it’s for a limited number of miles. If you go over the set limit, you can quickly rack up extra charges, which no one wants.

Leasing makes it easy to get into that perfect new model. A visit to our dealership offers drivers a wide range to choose from. We often have various lease deals going on, and our finance team is ready to go through all of your options so you can find the best option. So make sure you look around the lot and request information regarding our current Toyota lease terms. You might find a great deal on a vehicle you didn’t even consider before.

Regardless of the lease deal, it’s good to keep in mind that all newly leased Toyotas come standard with the ToyotaCare plan, which is great news for future drivers. Under the ToyotaCare maintenance plan, drivers are covered for their regularly scheduled factory maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Not only that, but drivers get roadside assistance for two years and unlimited miles.

Don’t think that just because you’re thinking about leasing that you’ll have a limited selection. We offer lease deals on some of the latest hybrid models like the Prius Prime RAV4 hybrid, meaning it’s easier than ever to go green while staying within your budget. You can also get a lease on models like the BRZ, Tacoma, Camry, and RAV4. To find the best deals and learn all about the latest incentives when it comes to leasing, make sure to talk to one of our lease specialists, who are up to date on all the great advantages of leasing a Toyota.

Buy Something New

You’ve traded in your old vehicle, and while leasing is tempting, maybe you drive too much, or maybe you just like the feeling of a solid investment. Either way, investing in a Toyota is a great way to go. After you get the trade-in value for your old vehicle, it’ll be easier to configure your budget and see how much you want to spend on your new vehicle. It’s important to keep your budget in mind while looking to avoid going over.

Not only is your budget important, but think about your daily needs and what you want to get out of the vehicle. Is it often just you in the car, or do you have a growing family to consider? What about hauling and towing? How many miles do you drive in a week? These are all good things to consider when you’re thinking about a new vehicle.

When you start looking, it’s always a good idea to learn more about our current special offers and buyer incentive programs to make sure you’re getting the best terms. Luckily, all of that information is easy to find under the “Offers” section of our website, or you can just give us a call and ask us all about them.

If you’re not ready to commit to a vehicle yet and want to start your search from home, you can do so. Browse through our online inventory and use our handy tools to find your trade-in value, see your estimated monthly payments, and compare models and options. With all of this capability, it makes narrowing down your choices based on your budget easy and will save you time when you are finally ready to buy.

A silver 2022 Toyota Supra is shown from the front at an angle in a dark alley after the owner searched for 'sell my car, reading'

Making the decision to sell your current method of transportation is the first step for many consumers to either upgrade to a better vehicle or possibly obtain some money to help out with unforeseen circumstances. Before you advertise your vehicle or even research the adequate price to sell, there are some critical choices to make regarding how you’re going to sell. You can maximize your profits by selling it yourself, or you can avoid the hassle and stress and sell it to a local dealership such as Performance Toyota. If you’ve finally decided that “I’m going to sell my car,” Reading has plenty of potential customers. Today we’ll go over both selling methods to determine which one will work better for you.

Some Things to Know About Selling in Pennsylvania

Before you decide how to sell your vehicle, there are a few facts about Pennsylvania state law that you should be aware of. Mainly, you need to know how to fill out the appropriate paperwork, so the sale is legit. When you transfer ownership of a vehicle in the state of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles will assist in a legal transfer. On the title itself, you must fill out the purchaser’s name and address, sign the title, and disclose a current odometer reading. You will also be required to provide proper proof of identification to verify you are the owner and have the rights to sell the vehicle. Once you have transferred the title, you need to remove the license plates and return them to the DMV or have them transferred over to a new vehicle.

Understanding the Market Value

Before you choose a price to sell your vehicle at, you need to understand its current value. Here’s where some brief research is absolutely necessary. Regardless of the make and model, all vehicles undergo a depreciation process. This begins from the moment a vehicle leaves the lot, and it continues to depreciate every year the vehicle is owned. Some vehicles do a better job retaining their value than others, so finding your vehicle’s current value is essential when choosing a price.

Publications such as Kelley Blue Book are updated each year with the current market value. This will give you an idea of the resale value and how much you can expect to get. It’s essential to take into consideration that other factors affect its value. Wear and tear, mileage, and condition of the vehicle’s body and its mechanical state all play a huge part in the sale price.

However, while online tools can be helpful in determining the potential value of your current vehicle, there are many factors that go into what someone will actually pay. If the market is currently overcrowded with used models, you’ll likely get less for your vehicle, while if the pool is empty of good used models, you might get more. Also, little things like how clean your car is and color can all play a major role on if your car is going to sell for more or less than it’s worth.

While you’ll be able to set your own price when you sell a vehicle on your own, the same can’t be said when you sell to a dealership. Dealers tend to pay a little less for the used cars they buy. This is primarily due to the preparation they have to do to make a vehicle ready for the marketplace. Inspection, detailing, and mechanical and bodywork must be done beforehand. If you sell a car yourself, you may be paying out of pocket to get your vehicle sale-worthy. This is one of the advantages of selling directly to a dealership. Plus, if you work with us, you know we will give you a fair price for your vehicle.

Paperwork: It’s Either a Hassle or a Non-Issue

As we previously mentioned, some necessary paperwork must be filled out when a vehicle is sold. If you’re selling your vehicle to a private party, you’ll need the original or a replacement title and a few other items required by Pennsylvania state law. You’ll want the current vehicle maintenance records, and although it’s not legally required, a bill of sale is good to have. Filling out this paperwork and ensuring it’s accurately and correctly done is necessary. Not to mention, it’s pretty time-consuming.

One of the most significant advantages of selling a car to a dealership is that you’ll be handing over your car and the responsibility for all the paperwork that comes with it. We’ll deal with the DMV and any other notarizations that come with it. We can also advise you on any other paperwork that might be missing when you decide to sell. Not to mention, if you decide to buy something new from us, we can get all of that paperwork done for you at the same time.

A white 2020 Toyota GT86 is shown from the front at an angle on a mountain road.

Preparation and Waiting vs a Quick Turnaround

Now that you’ve put in the legwork, gotten the paperwork together, and figured out a ballpark estimate of what your vehicle might go for, it’s time for the final preparations before putting it on the market. If you’re selling your vehicle yourself, you’ll need to do a few things beforehand. Making sure you’re selling a product of decent quality is the first priority; the second is making sure it looks good, and there’s transparency with your sale.

If you’re selling privately, there is a lot of stuff you are going to want to do. Take your vehicle to a mechanic for an inspection. If any lingering repairs need to be taken care of, it’s best that they’re done right away. If you can, get documentation from the shop to provide it to a potential buyer. This will put a buyer’s mind at ease. Speaking of which, you’ll have better luck selling your vehicle if you provide a CARFAX report. This will guarantee transparency by allowing any prospective buyer to see a detailed history of the vehicle. Last but certainly not least, bring your car to a location that offers detailing. Having your car thoroughly cleaned inside and out will attract more buyers than one that’s been collecting dust and looks unkempt.

If you choose to sell your car to a dealership, all of these steps will be undertaken by them. A transaction through a dealership like ours is quick and a lot less hassle. You can just bring your car in and leave with cash in hand the same day without needing to go through any costly repairs or having to wait for who knows how long to get a buyer.

It mostly comes down to if you want to maximize your profit and are willing to wait for the right buyer. Be warned that this could take several weeks or months. And you’ll have to sit in on several test drives and deal with occasional buyers who want to pay much less than you’re asking. A quick turnaround isn’t the only advantage. Selling your vehicle to a dealership can result in a notable tax deduction or the chance to use the vehicle as equity towards purchasing a new one.

It’s About What You Want to Do

At the end of the day, you may be able to get a better price for your vehicle by selling it privately––maybe––but does that pro outweigh the extra work, time, and energy it takes? Selling to a dealership is much easier and more straightforward, though you may not see as much profit. If you feel the wait is worth it and have your heart set on a specific high price, then selling a vehicle on your own might be your best bet. However, if you want a quick turnaround with no hassle so you can get back to the things you want to do, then taking advantage of selling to a dealership like Performance Toyota will make the transition process quick and free of stress and aggravation. We are happy to offer you a great price for any vehicle you want to sell or trade-in, and we are happy to take care of all of the paperwork, so you don’t have to.

A white 2018 Toyota Prius is shown from the side while driving through the city after the owner searched 'used Toyota for sale'.

When it comes to buying used cars, it’s a well-known fact that Toyotas are always a great vehicle. So when it comes to narrowing down which used Toyota for sale you should get, it’s not an easy choice. Sure, you can’t go wrong as long as it’s a Toyota, but if you want a used fuel-efficient model, then there are certain vehicles that can meet that need a little bit better than others. Here are the vehicles that we here at Performance Toyota think are the best fuel-efficient models that Toyota has to offer.

Best Used Cars

The following cars are great for commuters, travelers, errand-runners, and just about everyone else in between. Good cars are hard to come by, but when you stick with one of these, you can be sure that your used vehicle is as good as new.

The 2018 Toyota Prius

If you’re searching for fuel efficiency, then the Prius cannot be beat. They’re able to get up to 58 miles per gallon (MPG)! That makes the Prius an incredibly efficient vehicle to drive. Paired with the 11-gallon tank, the Prius can get you over 600 miles on one tank of gas! That makes the Prius one of the most gas-friendly vehicles available. We are particularly partial to the 2018 because it got an infotainment upgrade that increased the screen size to an 11.6-inch touchscreen. We really liked that upgrade because it caught the Prius up to the competition.

We also really like the style of the 2018 Prius. It was given sharp exterior lines, making it appear sportier and more edgy. The 2018 model was also given a really impressive suspension that makes it ride incredibly smooth, even over rough and unpredictable terrain. The interior is comfortable and surprisingly roomy for how compact the Prius appears on the outside. So if you’re looking for a used vehicle that is eco-friendly, economical to drive, and easy in the seats, the 2018 Prius is a great selection. The 2018 Prius is a gift that keeps on giving, even years after its release.

The 2019 Toyota Camry

As a slightly larger sedan, the 2019 Toyota Camry will satisfy anyone who takes it for a test drive. Even though it is a little larger, it is still incredibly fuel-efficient, with its best possible fuel economy at 41 MPG on the highway. The great fuel efficiency isn’t the only good thing about the Camry, though. The 2019 model got some upgrades that were needed to make it the perfect car for drivers. On the interior, the Camry got an infotainment upgrade that allows it to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which we think was a great move because most of us just connect our phones to the car system and play music from there now.

The 2019 Camry also has some safety features that make it one of the best used models on the market. Features such as lane-keep assistance and departure warnings, forward collision warnings, and adaptive cruise are all available on the 2019 Camry, making the driving experience a lot more enjoyable because there’s less for you to stress about. A car that reduces stress while driving is worth its weight in gold, especially during rush hour traffic. But you won’t have to spend that much to get a used Camry, which is just one more thing we love about them.

Best Used SUVs

SUVs are the perfect in-between vehicle for those needing more room than a car but less than a truck. These are our favorite used Toyota SUVs on our lot because we know they’ll make a great purchase for any driver.

The 2019 Toyota Rav4

Fuel efficiency is typically obsolete when it comes to SUVs, but this is not the case with the Rav4, which gets an impressive 26 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway. This makes the 2019 RAV4 a great choice for anyone who needs more room but wants to keep the fuel efficiency of a car. Another aspect that makes the 2019 model worth looking at is the major updates it received that year. It was a redesign year for the Rav4, so Toyota went all out in making it a better version of itself. Some of these updates were the Toyota Safety Sense package and the exterior upgrades that made it look sportier and more athletic.

It’s worth noting the safety feature upgrade is huge because it alleviates the worry that other drivers can cause us. If your vehicle is watching out for other drivers to make mistakes, then you can relax a little and just focus on keeping yourself in your lane. Toyota also made some improvements to the ride comfort and driveability of the 2019 Rav4s that make them more comfortable and controllable, which contributes to a better time for those behind the wheel. The inside of the Rav4 is roomy and comfortable, making it enjoyable to be in for drivers and passengers alike. The Rav4s are great any year, but we like the 2019 model for all those reasons.

A silver 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid is shown from the rear while driving down a city street.

The 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Finding one fuel-conscious SUV is difficult; finding two should be impossible. But Toyota has managed it. The 2020 Highlander Hybrids are excellent vehicles, and part of what makes them so great is how unprecedented their MPG is for an SUV. These total beasts compare to most cars out on the roads with their combined fuel economy of around 36 MPG! If you need the benefits of an SUV, you want it to be friendly to your wallet, and you want it to come eco-friendly, the 2020 Highlander Hybrids have delivered!

But they’re great for more than just what they can do on a tank of gas, though. The 2020s were given interior upgrades and an exterior upgrade to match. When you look inside the 2020 Highlander, you get almost luxury-level comfort, and it’s roomier and more accommodating for passengers. The Infotainment is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Sirius XM enabled, allowing drivers and passengers to customize their in-car playlists and experiences. The exterior upgrades make the 2020 model look sharper without removing any of its physical appeal.

Best Used Truck

The truck market is huge across the board and figuring out what truck is the best is no easy task. However, when looking specifically at Toyota trucks, there is one model that stands out.

The 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Trucks aren’t designed to have fuel economy in mind; their focus is more power-oriented, which is one of the reasons why the Tacoma is so impressive. When it comes down to fuel efficiency, the 2018 version can get up to 23 MPG. This doesn’t sound too significant, but when you consider that efficiency comes connected with up to 278 horsepower, this makes it a real feat. They’re smaller trucks, making them easy to get through tight spots, but they’re not so small that they lack power and capability. They are still very capable vehicles that seem to be able to tackle any task thrown their way. The 2018 Tacoma has the crucial safety feature update that makes it one of the best versions of used Tacomas available. Paired with the tight exterior styling, upscale interior trimmings, and the touchscreen infotainment package, the 2018 Tacomas are one of the best used trucks available.

A grey 2023 Toyota GR Corolla is shown from the front in the pits after leaving a Toyota GR Corolla dealership.

You’ve probably heard of the Toyota Corolla. It’s been around since 1966 as a constant and reliable figure in the automotive world. Nearly everyone has driven or ridden in a Corolla at some point. From driver’s education classes to rental car companies and all the millions of smart drivers who have stopped by our dealership and invested in their own, the Corolla is widely considered a safe and reliable vehicle that just about anyone could drive. It’s hard to list everything we love about the Corolla because it’s such a fantastic little car.

But naming everything we love about the 2023 GR Corolla is an entirely different type of conversation. After years of development, the not-so-secret secret collaboration between Toyota and GAZOO Racing is about to hit the roads for the first time. And as a result, the Corolla is getting a brand new image, and drivers across the country are more than ecstatic to come check it out here at their Toyota GR Corolla dealership. As we collectively get amped up for the release of the 2023 Corolla GR, allow us to contribute to the anticipation with our own compilation of everything we know and love about this special new model.

We Love the Top Secret Origin Story

Since everything has already been announced to the public, there are no spoilers in this content––unless you mean the kind mounted to the rear of the GR Corolla to improve downforce and play off the car’s wide and low aerodynamic stance.

GAZOO Racing is technically a part of Toyota but in an unofficial capacity. Even the driver, Morizo, is using an alias. The mission they chose to accept was to develop a Toyota car that could hold its own in endurance races. Specifically, they had their eye on the 24 Hours of Nurburgring competition.

This race is often and aptly referred to as “grueling” for many compelling reasons. The race itself lasts 24 hours. The course is created from a 15.8-mile loop between two circuits at the Nurburgring motorsports complex in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. 200 cars participate, each driven by a team of 2-4 drivers. Pulling off a feat like this requires a vehicle that can provide speed, endurance, and agility in unspeakable quantities.

Toyota created an expert project team, including Morizo, who we have since learned is Akio Toyoda, the CEO of Toyota Motor Corp. and chief test driver for the company. They didn’t just build a car to meet expectations, either; they put it through a series of tests at Fuji Speedway and Tsukuba Circuit and even took their concept vehicle out in serious dirt and snow conditions to participate in rally races. The project started in 2007, and the 2023 GR Corolla is the product of their work. Perfection, it seems, takes time.

A closeup of the wheel of a grey 2023 Toyota GR Corolla.

We Love What the 2023 GR Corolla Can Do

You’ve likely heard all the stats by now, but let’s pause and consider them in context. The 2023 GR Corolla comes equipped with a 1.6L 3-cylinder engine. Considering the 2022 Corolla has a standard 1.8 L 4-cylinder engine, that fact might not get the goosebumps going. Allow us to clarify: the 2023 GR Corolla comes equipped with a 1.6L 3-cylinder direct port injected turbo engine that produces 300 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque, peaking as low as 3000 rpm.

But we can’t stop there because the GR Corolla is a work of engineering art, in every welded seam and glossy black accent. The 12-valve engine is accompanied by a 6-speed manual transmission with rev-matching for a lightning-fast shift between gears. This is reflected in the cockpit, where the intuitively placed shift lever keeps things real with its short stroke for quick throw between gears.

There’s a triple exhaust system that is specifically designed for the least possible backpressure, keeping your system cool enough to charge forward boldly. In fact, the entire combustion and exhaust process has been considered in detail, with technology that controls waste gasses for optimum performance.

Consider also the rally-developed selectable GR-Four all-wheel drive system, which allows drivers to choose the power distribution ratio between front and rear wheels. This Corolla is designed to absorb the surface on which it travels, whatever that may be at any given time. Front and rear Torsen Limited-Slip Differentials are offered on the Core Grade and standard on the Circuit Edition, providing exceptional left-right torque and grip through corners.

Let’s put this all together and imagine how this would playout for the driver. You’ve got an engine with approximately the same torque figures as a Tacoma and the horsepower of a Porsche. You’re sitting low and wide on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Now just imagine what happens when you pop the clutch and toss the GR Corolla into gear. Take your time. We’ll wait.

We Love That It’s a Functional Car

If you’re looking to make a quick trip to the grocery store (a very quick trip to the grocery store), we recommend taking the GR Corolla. That’s because it is very much street legal and street enjoyable. That is to say; you won’t hate the act of driving the GR Corolla on otherwise boring paved roads.

While there are a few hints of this car’s performance pedigree, such as Brin Naub suede sport seats, there are many useful features, too, such as the seatback pocket on that same sport seat. Heated front seats, automatic climate control, and Bluetooth phone connectivity are a few other handy features that compliment the Corolla’s interior.

The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver assistance technology is also aboard the GR Corolla. Enhanced sensors provide even more sensitive detection, giving the Corolla a state-of-the-art approach to familiar systems, such as Pre-Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection, which also provides alerts for motorcyclists and upcoming guardrails or barriers.

Other key features that make the GR Corolla much more than a rally car include wireless smartphone charging, front and rear consoles, and 2 USB charging ports. It’s the practical side of being a high-performance automobile.

A grey 2023 Toyota GR Corolla is shown from the rear on a racetrack.

We Don’t Love the Wait

They say that good things come to those who wait, and we’re inclined to agree in most cases. But as your Toyota GR Corolla dealership, we’re just as eager as you are to check out this impressive vehicle in person. Reading about the 2023 GR Corolla is enough to elevate the pulse, but what will it be like when we finally get to put our feet on the aluminum sport pedals and take off? Will it be exactly what we imagine now, or will it be so much better? Will we know exactly what to do when we hit that first turn or when the terrain gets deep?

Many drivers anticipate that GAZOO Racing’s latest achievement will certainly live up to the hype. If the GR Yaris is anything to gauge predictions by, it is likely that the GR Corolla will hit exactly the right spot for a variety of performance drivers. It may be designed with 24 Hours of Nurburgring in mind, but it also promises to live up to the standards created by 24 Hours of Your Life. While the performance aspects are certainly the platform on which the 2023 GR Corolla has been engineered, we love that it’s designed to go fast, drive boldly into the unknown, and be home with dinner.

A salesperson is shown going over paperwork with a customer at a used car dealer near you.

Purchasing your first car is a monumental occasion; it’s a rite of passage into adulthood that deserves to be celebrated. But there’s more to owning a vehicle than simply getting behind the wheel. You’re also responsible for common automotive expenses like insurance, registration, taxes, maintenance, and repair. So, how much can you expect to budget for these expenses? Fortunately, your search for a “used car dealer near me” brought you to Performance Toyota, where we’re excited to answer that question and prepare you for the responsibilities that come with owning a vehicle.

We’re here to help you celebrate this rite of passage and, as veterans in the business, know that the best way to do that is by educating new drivers like yourself. It’s important to know what to expect. Buying a used vehicle with us is straightforward, but that’s only the beginning of your automotive-related expenses. So what can you expect to spend on your first vehicle, and how can you set yourself up for greater financial success as a first-time driver? We’ve got those answers and more!

Expense #1: The Vehicle Itself

You’re already off to a great start by shopping for a used vehicle. While that new car smell is enticing, a new car starts losing its value the moment you drive it off the lot. By purchasing a used vehicle, you’re avoiding this rapid rate of depreciation and paying closer to the vehicle’s actual value. Coincidentally, your money also goes a lot further on the used lot and can get you behind the wheel of a better-equipped car, truck, or SUV with cutting-edge safety and technology features.

Let’s Talk Numbers

Let’s put this in context. Your budget is $25,000, which barely gets you behind the wheel of an entry-level trim on a new model. Even then, you lose up to 11% of your investment when you drive off the lot, which is the same as setting a match to a $2,750 check. After 12 months, your vehicle is only worth 80% of its value or $5,000 less than you paid. By its fifth year, your $25,000 car is only worth $10,000 or 40% of what you paid.

On the used lot, your $25,000 budget can get you behind the wheel of a well-equipped model like the Toyota Camry. In exchange for that new car smell and a few miles on the odometer, you’re getting an efficient and luxurious sedan with an array of features at a fraction of the price. What’s not to love?

Expense #2: Insurance

After you purchase a vehicle, you’re legally required to insure it in the state of Pennsylvania. Insurance protects you, your investment, and your passengers in the event of an accident, whether you or another driver is at fault. Unfortunately, insurance is typically higher for new drivers because inexperience makes you a greater liability or risk to insure.

In Pennsylvania, the overall cost of insurance is lower than the national average, as is the cost to own a vehicle. Financial experts report that an 18-year-old teen driver can expect to pay around $4,800 per year for insurance. This averages to $400 per month, which is considerably lower than the national average of over $600 for full-coverage insurance for an 18-year-old.

A car key is shown on an insurance form.

Let’s Talk Ways to Save

There are several ways you can save on insurance. Insurance companies often offer multi-car or bundle discounts, which is ideal if your parent or guardian is willing to add your vehicle to their policy and let you make your part of the payment. Many insurance companies also offer a good student discount based on your grades, while others reward safe driving with lower rates after an accident-free period. Beyond these discounts, we also encourage you to shop around for insurance as rates vary across companies.

Expense #3: License, Registration, and Taxes

Once you’ve purchased your used vehicle, you have to make it street-legal to drive in Pennsylvania. Beyond insurance, you’ll have to make sure it’s registered and licensed. You’ll also have to pay taxes on the sale and personal property taxes each year. Vehicle registration in Pennsylvania averages anywhere between $35 and $85, while licensing a used vehicle is around $75 depending on its weight. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue also collects a 6% sales tax on the vehicle, which means you’ll pay approximately $1,500 in sales tax on a $25,000 purchase.

Let’s Talk Financial Planning

Unfortunately, there’s no way to save on your used vehicle’s taxes, registration, and licensing. While you may negotiate a lower price on your used car or negotiate so that the dealership covers the sales tax, this isn’t a fool-proof way to save money. Because of this, it’s vital to account for these expenses as you financially plan for your purchase. For example, you can include the 6% sales tax rate into your overall budget to reduce the risk of spending more than you can afford.

Expense #4: Tires, Maintenance, and Repairs

One of the greatest responsibilities you have as a vehicle owner is overseeing its operability so that it serves you for many miles ahead. It’s the smartest way to protect your investment. To do this requires routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations. It also means purchasing a new set of tires or repairing significant issues when they arise, such as those pesky “Check Engine” lights that can signal more extensive problems with the powertrain or drivetrain.

Maintenance, repair, and tire expenses can vary dramatically based on the issue, the service center, and your location. Routine vehicle maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations typically average around $75 to $275 per year, depending on mileage and driving conditions. Extensive repairs like those involving the transmission or engine are more expensive and can cost thousands of dollars, which is stress-inducing and financially overwhelming if your vehicle is out of warranty.

Let’s Talk Ways to Save

One of the most effective ways to save on vehicle maintenance is to stay vigilant. For example, a “Check Engine” light might be inconvenient and require spending an afternoon at our service department, but it can lead to more costly repairs when ignored for too long. The same approach works for your tires, which are vital to your safety on the road and your vehicle’s performance. Bald tires are not only hazardous in wet conditions, but they also force your car, truck, or SUV to work harder and burn more fuel. By keeping an eye on your tread and monitoring for uneven wear, you can prolong the life of your tires and keep more of your hard-earned money in your wallet.

Money, Money, Money

Did you know that Pennsylvania is the fifth most affordable state to own a car? As of 2021, financial experts reported that Pennsylvania car owners spend around $2,248 per year on their vehicles. This amount excludes the vehicle’s purchase price and includes maintenance, repair, insurance, and fuel. Ah, that dreaded “F” word. Fuel.

No, we didn’t forget. Fuel is one of the heftiest expenses that come with owning a vehicle. It’s also one of the hardest for us to put an exact number on because it depends on the vehicle, your driving style, and how often you’re behind the wheel. For example, fuel costs are minimal for someone who drives a hybrid and barely logs 100 miles on the odometer each week. However, fuel costs will be significantly higher if you’re behind the wheel of a truck like the Tundra and spend a lot of time on the road. So, what’s our solution?

As you budget for your first vehicle and your celebratory rite of passage into adulthood, it’s best to estimate high rather than low for every automotive expense. This puts you in a position to be prepared for the unexpected. In addition, by financially preparing for these situations, whether filling up the tank or buying a new set of tires, they become less of a financial catastrophe and set you up for greater success as a responsible vehicle owner.

Toyota is one of the most successful automotive companies in the world, being named the best overall truck brand and the best resale value by Kelley Blue Book. This is because Toyotas hold their value over time, as they are more reliable than those of most other manufacturers. This is why a used Toyota is one of the best values you are going to find when you go looking for your next vehicle. The best way to buy a used Toyota is under Toyota’s Certified Pre-Owned Program. When you stop by Performance Toyota, your Certified Pre-Owned Toyota dealer, you are going to see for yourself some of the best used Toyota models available today.

At Performance Toyota in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, we offer a vast inventory of Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Toyota cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, and electric vehicles. This means that you will be able to find the Toyota you want with all the Toyota CPO Advantages that you get when you buy from an authorized dealer like us. These advantages of the Toyota CPO program are what set a CPO Toyota apart from just any other used car on the road. This is why a CPO Toyota is almost as good as new.

How Does a Used Toyota Qualify for the CPO Program?

Toyota started its CPO program in 1996 under the name the Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Program. Since that time, over 7 million Toyota CPO vehicles have been sold, making it one of the most successful programs of its type to date. This success is a testament to the excellent benefits provided to drivers looking for a solid value in an exceptional vehicle.

Unlike used cars that can be sourced from anywhere, Toyota has a very rigorous set of criteria that must be met before a used Toyota vehicle qualifies for the CPO program. First, it must be less than 6 model years old. Since the current model year is 2022, only vehicles that were built for the 2016 model year or later will qualify for the program. Second, the specific Toyota vehicle cannot have more than 85,000 miles on its odometer. This is important since many parts of a vehicle will wear out over time. By making sure that a prospective used Toyota is newer with less mileage, Toyota is sourcing only the best used vehicles available.

Once a prospective used Toyota meets these initial criteria, it will undergo a thorough 160-point quality assurance inspection performed at the Toyota dealership by a trained technician. This inspection covers everything from the tires and suspension on the Toyota vehicle to the engine and transmission. The technician will even do a state-mandated emissions test and make sure all safety recalls have been repaired. The Toyota CPO program includes fuel cell (FCV), EV, and hybrid vehicles. If the used Toyota in question is an FCV, the inspection will be increased to 165 items involving the fuel cell components and 174 for hybrids and EVs to cover items specific to those type of models. Only after the prospective vehicle has passed this inspection will it be put up for sale under the Toyota CPO program. This gives you peace of mind that you are getting a quality used Toyota when you buy one under the CPO program.

Two Exceptional Warranties to Give You Protection If Anything Goes Wrong

When you buy a used car, you don’t really have any protection if something goes wrong with your vehicle. If the Bluetooth on the infotainment system stops working, then you will have to pay to have it repaired. If there is an issue with the engine or transmission, you will have to pay to have them repaired. All of this can get quite costly over time, especially if your powertrain system needs repair. Fortunately, if you buy a CPO Toyota car, truck, minivan, EV, or SUV, Toyota will have your back with a pair of excellent warranties.

Every CPO Toyota model comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile limited comprehensive warranty. This warranty covers any repair or replacement of components on your CPO Toyota that may fail during normal use as a result of a defect in material or workmanship. If that should happen during the warranty period, Toyota has got you covered, as this warranty has absolutely no deductible.

You also get a 7-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty that covers all major engine and transmission components, as well as all internally lubricated parts. This also has no deductible, so if you are covered, you will not go out-of-pocket. This is an excellent benefit for a used vehicle, as the powertrain repairs can be the costliest of any engine feature. In addition, if you need a powertrain repair to your CPO Toyota while you are traveling at least 150 miles away from your home, Toyota will reimburse you for your meals, hotel, and alternate transportation while your Toyota vehicle’s powertrain is being repaired.

Each of these warranties is transferable. This means that if you decide to sell your CPO Toyota to someone else while either or both of these warranties are still in effect, you can do so at no cost, so Toyota will also cover the person who buys your car. This will make your CPO Toyota more valuable than the same model without these coverages.

Toyota also offers similar coverage to hybrids and FCVs. If the CPO Toyota you are buying is a hybrid or EV, you will get a 10-year/150,000-mile HV battery warranty. If the hybrid vehicle you are buying is a 2020 model or after, you will also get an 8-year/100,000-miles hybrid-related component warranty. For FCVs, the coverage includes an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on key fuel cell components.

One of the best parts of the Toyota CPO warranty program is the complimentary 7-year/100,000-mile 24-hour roadside assistance. This will provide you with roadside assistance for the full term of your CPO powertrain warranty. If you have a flat tire, Toyota will provide someone to change and replace your flat with a properly inflated spare. If you are locked out of your vehicle, roadside assistance will help you get inside. The service crew can also help you with a jump-start if your battery is dead and a few gallons of gas if you run out while you are driving your CPO Toyota vehicle. They will even tow your Toyota to the nearest dealership if you suffer a breakdown on the road or get into a collision.

A salesman is shown speaking to customers at a ceritfied pre-owned Toyota dealership.

A Fully Transparent Process

One issue many buyers run into when buying a used car is determining if there are any issues with the vehicle itself. Unless you bring along your own mechanic, you have no way of knowing if there is anything wrong with the vehicle. Similarly, unless you do your own research, you have no idea if there are any defects in the ownership of the used car you are buying. Toyota takes all the scary mystery out of the process, providing you with a free CARFAX vehicle history report with every CPO Toyota vehicle. This report lists all kinds of vital information about the specific vehicle, including whether there are any title defects, if the airbags were ever deployed, if the vehicle was ever submerged, and how many prior drivers owned this vehicle. As a result, the entire process will be fully transparent to you. In addition, CARFAX provides a buyback program if anything proves to be inaccurate in its vehicle history report.

In addition, Toyota provides standard new-car financing rates for any vehicle under the Toyota CPO program. This means that if you decide to finance your purchase, you will get similar terms to those if you were buying a new Toyota car, truck, minivan, EV, or SUV. This will make buying a Toyota CPO vehicle more affordable over time.

Make Your Next Vehicle a CPO Toyota

You can always buy a used car, but you won’t get one that has been carefully sourced and inspected. You also won’t get warranties covering the parts and powertrain of your used car, with 24-hour roadside assistance if something goes wrong while you are out driving. While you can get a CARFAX vehicle history report, you are going to have to pay for this yourself. Also, if you spot any issues in the report, you will have to convince the seller to give you some kind of discount to cover the problem. As you can see, this can lead to one big hassle after another. Of course, you can avoid all of this by making your next vehicle a CPO Toyota that you buy from our dealership in a hassle-free, fully transparent process, with the peace of mind that one of the world’s greatest automakers is standing by to help you if anything goes wrong. Stop by our dealership and see all the great CPO Toyotas on sale, all covered by this exceptional program.

A technician is shown changing the wheel on a white 2022 Toyota Camry TRD.

As you sit in traffic, waiting for the light to turn green, it’s natural that you’d notice the cars around you, and if you’ve ever happened to be stopped next to a Toyota, you may have noticed something interesting. Some Toyota models have a TRD badge on them, and although it signifies something, you may be unsure what it means. It stands for Toyota Racing Development, meaning that if you want to harness a more thrilling ride, opting for a TRD model is highly advised, especially on one of the most beloved Toyota models around, the Camry. At Performance Toyota, we’re the area’s top Toyota Camry dealer, and if a 2022 Camry is on your mind, we’d like to make a suggestion. You’re going to want to take a closer look at the Camry TRD model, designed with exhilaration at its core, making it one of the most exciting options in the lineup, just waiting to maximize your everyday journey.

About Toyota Racing Development

You may be thinking that your daily commute into the office doesn’t necessarily warrant a race car, but let us clarify a few things about the TRD program first. Toyota Racing Development, although well-versed in the nuts and bolts associated with racing and motorsports, has been working to carry these thrilling elements to its everyday vehicles for decades. After all, who decided that your trip to work each day needed to be boring and uneventful? The TRD program seeks to change the way we travel, offering models that are more inspiring and finely tuned for perfection to make for a more riveting ride. That’s why the Camry has been outfitted with TRD capabilities, as it remains one of Toyota’s best-selling vehicles year after year.

Arming everyday vehicles with performance features to help them handle better and accelerate a little quicker livens up the Toyota inventory, and the automaker has been at this longer than you may realize. Ever since the ’80s, when the Supra Turbo won the Grand Touring Championship in Japan and the Celica Twin-Cam Turbo turned heads in Kenya at the World Rally Championship Safari Rally, the TRD program was making a name for itself. In fact, the Celica was the very first import vehicle to be a part of NASCAR in 2000, with Toyota becoming victorious with its entry in 2003. Its Supra model went on to place third at the Daytona 500 just a few years later. Taking all of this research and engineering, Toyota began to sprinkle these features into their everyday vehicle lineup to further enhance their appeal with performance enthusiasts.

Today, the TRD badge can be seen on a number of Toyota models, including the Tacoma, RAV4, Sequoia, Camry, and more. Being able to get more excitement out of your vehicle while still enjoying superior safety and reliability makes TRD models perfect for your daily travels. If adding more thrill to the journey is what you’re searching for, TRD models will surely meet and exceed your expectations.

A close up shows the red 'TRD' stitching on the black leather seat in a 2022 Toyota Camry TRD.

Camry TRD Performance Features

The 2022 Camry can be equipped with TRD capabilities, which allow it to be even more spectacular than it already is, and if you know anything about the Camry, it was born to be a crowd-pleaser. TRD models are known to handle better in any situation, which is exactly what you’ll find in the 2022 Camry, armed with TRD-tuned shocks to heighten its handling, steering, and control on the road. Its lower stance not only showcases a more intimidating appearance but it also improves aerodynamics, allowing it to perform optimally, especially as it cruises down the highway. Matte-black alloy wheels provide a sleek look to its profile, but they’re not just there to look pretty. Lightweight, they enhance the Camry’s handling, allowing it to purposefully tackle curves and respond to varying road conditions with unmatched prowess.

The TRD cat-back dual exhaust not only amplifies its throaty sound as you rev its engine, but it also works to improve the Camry’s performance. This racing-inspired exhaust limits backpressure, allowing the Camry to harness heightened efficiency, as well as outstanding power, making for a ride that screams excitement. Speaking of power, you can expect a more powerful engine inside the Camry TRD to naturally add more thrill to your drive, no matter where you’re traveling. Equipped with a 3.5L V6 that provides the Camry with exceptional 301 horsepower, being able to get moving quickly is the name of the game for the Camry TRD. With all that power, you may think that this strong engine wouldn’t be practical for everyday travel, but being able to get an average of 33 MPG on the highway will silence all the naysayers.

Large front brake rotors allow for increased control, while 18-inch rims can be outfitted with performance-inspired tires for even more agility and precision on the road. Pair all of this with a fine-tuned suspension system and see how controlled and agile the Camry becomes as it navigates the pavement beneath its tires. Performance reigns supreme in TRD models, and the Camry is no exception, making it a top choice for drivers who need a reliable, high-quality vehicle for their daily grind yet want to be able to harness a more impactful ride.

Camry TRD Styling

Of course, no TRD model would be complete without its fair share of style upgrades, designed to create the ultimate look for a performance vehicle. The 2022 Camry radiates racing-inspired design inside and out, with alloy wheels, bright red calipers, and sculpted curves on its exterior, and a TRD-tuned cockpit, just waiting for you to take your place behind the wheel. TRD badging and red pinstripes set the Camry TRD apart from the other available trims, offering an athletic look that can’t be denied. From the front, its grille showcases intimidating vibes, while from the back, its pedestal spoiler gives the Camry the look of a race car, as well as heightened performance and aerodynamics for a more eventful ride.
